Dry shampoo is typically a spray (though I've seen sprinkle on powder dry shampoo) used to refresh your hair, add volume, and absorb oil in between washing. Sounds like a sweet deal huh? Especially since washing your hair everyday can actually damage it, but nobody likes limp, oily locks. There are lots of different brands out there, with prices ranging from a few bucks to $35+. I've been on a quest to find the perfect dry shampoo and I'm going to share my review of the first one I've tried with you guys. I'll be judging it on: price, oil absorbency, residue, smell, and other.
I bought my Tresemme Fresh Start Dry Shampoo at my local Target for just under $5. I picked this one to start with because it was a brand I was familiar with and wasn't crazy expensive. Unfortunately I hate it, like completely and utterly hate it. Other than the price there was not one redeeming quality to this dry shampoo.
The whole point of dry shampoo is to absorb oil and give your hair a nice boost. The Tresemme dry shampoo actually make my hair feel oilier and made it even limper than it was. I don't have any idea what is causing that, but I've heard the same thing from other people as well. I might as well be using bacon grease for all the good this did me.
When talking about dry shampoo the conversation always turns to a thing called "white cast", which is the white sheen or residue the shampoo will leave in your hair from the ingredients. On this, Tresemme didn't rank to badly. If I wasn't careful and sprayed to close to to much I'd look like a little old lady, but if I was careful I'd just have a light white sheen to it near my part. I could always tell it was there but with some careful styling most people couldn't really see it.
The next category is smell, and Tresemme bombed this one as well. The smell when you spray it is super strong, strong enough I hold my breath while spraying it then I duck out of the bathroom for a minute or two. Once it disperses your hair will smell nice for the rest of the day, kind of a floral smell. But those first 5-10 minutes are a nightmare, especially if you are sensitive to smells.
The other category is for things like size, if it clogs up, and other random things. I thought the size was good, I used it about 2-3 times a week and it lasted me for quite a few months. The nozzle never clogged, which was a big bonus since that seems to be the #1 issue with dry shampoos.
Honestly, if it had actually absorbed any oil instead of making it worst I'd rebuy this product in a heartbeat, but since it did NOT do it's intended purpose I will not be repurchasing it or recommending it to people. The final scores are:
Price: A
Oil Absorbency: F
Residue: C
Smell: C
Other A
Appreciate your honesty with this product and others. A dry shampoo - A GOOD one is hard to come by. I had a good one, but my daughter took it to college with her lol
ReplyDeleteI feel like sometimes a bad review on a product is just as important as a good review. What brand did you like?
