Valentia Organic Rosehip Oil Review

*I received this product free for testing purposes. All opinions expressed are my own and freely given

Getting to test out and try lots of different products is one of my favorite parts of being a beauty blogger. I love getting pushed outside of my comfort zone and trying things I wouldn't have otherwise. The Valentia Rosehip oil is one of those things I wouldn't have tried had I been poking around a store, for no other reason than I hadn't used it before. I had no idea at all what you actually used rosehip oil for or even what it would smell like so I went into this test completely blank.

First, I have to state my disappointment that the oil does not smell like roses at all. I had convinced myself it'd be a bottle of rose smelling oil for some reason, which is silly since its the petals that have the fragrance. It smells a lot like Castor oil to me, so not a great smell but not a bad smell either.

This oil is used for its anti-aging, dark spot reducing, scar fading properties. Rosehip oil has been used since the time of the Mayans and ancient Egyptians for its healing benefits, so there is a lot of history behind it. I never used it on my face, my medication was changed without my consent so my face is a complete mess right now. But I've been doing Taekwondo almost my whole life so I had an abundance of scars to test it on.

I have a fairly recent, but nasty scar on my inner thigh from a nasty cut that shows when I wear shorts so I'd like it to go away. I used Valentia's Rosehip on it every evening and after my showers for a whole week. After day four the redness of the scar was starting to fade and the actual scar tissue was softening up. In case you've never has scars surgically dealt with, one of the things they do is lengthen and soften the tissue so it isn't a big lump. I had this done on a surgery scar once. So the softening of the scar tissue told me this was actually working. By the end of the week I could see and feel a difference for sure.

Is this better than the scar stuff they sell at the store? Depends on your definition of better. This is not faster, I know that for sure. But this is 100% natural so I don't have to worry about what I'm putting on my skin and I also don't need to worry about my toddler hurting himself if he gets into this. This absorbs quickly without leaving a greasy film on my skin, so a plus there. And true story, but I had a bottle of scar cream that the cream actually DISSOLVED the tube after owning it for about a year. If it will dissolve plastic I am NOT putting it on my skin.

I really liked this product and after doing additional research on its skin care benefits I think I will be brave and apply it to my face. But I will for sure continue to use it on my leg scar until it has faded to my liking. If you want to purchase it, you can buy it here for $13.99 (as of the time of this writing) with free Prime shipping.
